AN initiative to nurture a new generation of sports stars has been launched by a paralympic gold medallist.
Dame Tanni Grey- Thompson unveiled Tees Valley Future Champions, a scheme giving talented youngsters free or subsidised access to sports facilities.
Future Champions is part of the London 2012 Olympics’ Lasting Legacy programme.
It aims to inspire increased participation in activity in the Tees Valley.
Co-ordinated by Tees Valley Sport, Future Champions will support those aged 12 to 18 taking part in regional and national training and performance squads.
Specialist support and advice will be provided by postgraduate sport and exercise students from Teesside University.
It will give the athletes and coaches access to an experienced team of sports scientists, physiotherapists and other coaches.
