THE scrumpy is ready to be quaffed, with Yorkshire’s collapse this morning bringing Somerset closer to their first title. The Cidermen took only three wickets in the first session against Durham, finally removing Michael Di Venuto just before lunch for 129, but a draw will suffice.

A delayed start at Old Trafford left Nottinghamshire in no position to push for victory, while Somerset still have a chance of winning.

Their victory hopes had faded until Di Venuto pushed forward and edged Peter Trego to Craig Kieswetter, then in the last over before the break Ian Blackwell was caught off bat and pad off left-arm spinner Murali Kartik. In his last four innings of the season Blackwell scored 24,22,23,23.

On 255 for five Durham are 115 ahead with 53 overs left in the match. They showed little interest in pushing on this morning, with Ben Harmison taking 18 overs to score 15 runs before he glanced a leg-side catch to Kieswetter off Alfonso Thomas.

Di Venuto drove Ben Phillips through extra cover for his 11th four to reach his third hundred of the season off 155 balls.
