IN WEDNESDAY'S Memories, I looked back on a couple of soldiers' homecoming parades in Darlington over the years. I was inspired, if you like, by the great turn-out last week of townspeople to welcome home the 3 Rifles and award them Freedom of the Borough.
One of the parades I found was June 10, 1946: a Victory Parade down Northgate and into the town centre.
Attached here are two more pictures of the parade that I didn't have room to use in the column.
It looks to have been a typical June day. Nearly everyone is buttoned up in coats, gloves, headscarfs and bonnets. Some things never change.
