GYMNASTS from the North-East are taking part in an international event this weekend.
More than 30 youngsters are performing their routines in the newly-refurbished Gateshead Leisure Centre.
Team Gym is showcasing the talents of its members alongside Olympic British gymnasts Rebecca Downie and Hannah Whelan today at 2.45pm, as the British team takes on Switzerland.
British Gymnastics women’s technical director Adrian Stan said: “In combination with other competitions, the event at Gateshead will give us a clear indication where the British team stands in preparation for the Commonwealth Games and the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship.”
Team Gym has been running since 2004 and is coached by Marian Bailey.
Members of the team have qualified for British Championships in the past.
Sixteen-year-old Amy Bolam said: “Performing infront of international gymnasts is nerve racking, but I’m making the most of it and I’ve got tickets for the weekend.
