EDDIE PROUDMAN, of Funkywood, built on his experience as a joiner to recognise the need for doors, skirting boards and door frames to be created in contemporary and unusual styles. His wife, Helen, works with him to help with designs, and oversees sales and marketing.

Funkywood is capable of supplying doors with corporate logos or Braille incorporated into its design, and has created curved door frames and a range of patterned skirting boards. It also creates bespoke designs, and since setting up in February, has secured eight customers, but sees the potential for its offering as being massive.

Mr Proudman said: “I was working on a building site when it occurred to me that the design of a skirting board hadn’t been changed in 200 years. Neither had that of a door or a door frame.

“The amount of people who say it’s a brilliant idea and they’ve never seen anything like what we do is amazing. We really want to build up a reputation so when individual people or architects or even housebuilders want something created, they think of Funkywood.”
