TEENAGER fundraisers won the vote of town councillors when they spoke up to ask for cash.
Jade Armstrong, aged 14, and Jordan Anderson, 13, went to Tow Law Town Council when they needed money to set up a strawberry tea party for breast cancer research.
The girls, who both live on the Deerness Estate and go to Wolsingham School and Community College, persuaded the council to give them up to £150 from a community fund to match any sponsorship they raise themselves.
While they were at the meeting they joined in a debate on facilities offered for young people in the village.
They are both involved in a Youth Voice initiative and are on the youth committee at Tow Law Community Centre, where the tea party is taking place on Sunday, July 9.
Jade is a talented footballer and is having trials for Sunderland AFC girls next week.
A centre back, she is the only girl on Tow Law's youth team and plays for Willington Under-14 girls.
She said: "We did the In the Pink Walk for breast cancer and they wrote to us asking to support them again."
Jordan said: "We weren't nervous. They explained that they will give us the same money as we raise from other people, including the cost of things we are given and of the time we put in. It was good."
The council's vice-chairman Ron Grogan said: "The girls spoke very well. I think we should support them."
The strawberry tea is from 12.30pm to 4pm and includes a football quiz, nail art, a raffle and face painting.
Spaces are available for a table-top sale, contact the community centre on (01388) 731744 for details.
