LIBRARY users will swap books for bikes tomorrow to celebrate the opening of a riverside path.
Staff at Clayport Library, in Durham City, are inviting borrowers of all ages to join them on a ride from Pennyferry Bridge for a picnic at Finchale Abbey.
The ride, which will take about an hour each way, leaves the bridge at 11am. Riders are asked to bring their own picnic, and there will be a story-telling session for youngsters.
The route is possible on a road bike, but includes two short stretches where it may be advisable to dismount, and one rough stretch.
The ride celebrates National Bike Week and the opening of the Necklace project to provide a continuous path along the River Wear, from Finchale to Sunderland Bridge.
Anyone wanting to take part is asked to contact Clayport Library on 0191-386 4003.
