VILLAGERS have resurrected their carnival more than 20 years after the tradition was ended.
Residents living in Dene Valley villages are expected to turn out in force to celebrate the new-look carnival on the recreation ground opposite Brockwell Court, in Close House, on Saturday.
The event last took to the streets in the early 1980s, and residents felt it was time to bring back what was once a popular occasion.
A procession will set off from the park at about 11am to mark the start of the event, which will include a variety of attractions including a rodeo bull, pillow fighting stall, coconut shy, tug of war and five-a-side football.
The procession will include four jazz bands, as well as four carnival floats, featuring farm animals, fairies, the carnival queen and her princesses.
A spokesperson for the event said: "We have a committee which has been working hard all year round.
"We wanted to resurrect the carnival and show what a good community spirit the villages have.
"We are hoping that as many people as possible turn out on Saturday to support us.''
