A nature haven and community centre has opened for Army personnel and civilians.
Hipswell Habitat has been created by the Army Welfare Service, at Hipswell Lodge, in Smuts Road, Catterick Garrison.
The development includes Bluebell Wood Natural Habitat, an area set aside for wildlife and plants.
Oak Tree Cottage is a small meeting area suitable for coffee mornings and taster courses.
Acorns Activities Room will be available for events such as art and craft classes.
And the Evergreen Events Room is large enough to hold exhibitions.
Project leader Janet Reeve said: "With the expansion and changes at the garrison, one of our main goals was to break down the barriers between the military and civilian communities.
"This project will achieve this by working alongside other partners with the same vision as ourselves.
"With the demands placed upon soldiers with their operational roles, we felt it was time to create a sanctuary for families involved with deployments, both before and after.
"Additionally, we all know just how difficult it can be to adjust back to the routine of garrison life again."
The project was part-funded by Yorkshire Forward through the Rural Target Fund for North Yorkshire programme. Grants also came from the Army Central Fund and SSAFA Forces Help.
The natural habitat will include seating in peaceful areas and nature walks for all ages and abilities.
The facility was opened by Major General Euan Loudon, general officer commanding the Army's 2nd Division, on Tuesday.
