CATTERICK is in action every month of the year, as this busy North Yorkshire course stages both Flat and Jump racing.

There are 18 scheduled racedays this year on the Flat between early April and the last day of October.

A track with a fine tradition and a loyal following, Catterick held its first meeting on April 22, 1783, with a permanent course established by 1813.

However, it was not until 1906 that a stand was built and the first Race Company formed in 1923.

In 1946, one of the great administrators of Yorkshire racing, Major Leslie Petch, became Clerk of the Course and the track was redesigned to its present form. In 2004, the stable yard was redeveloped and replaced by a new £600,000 facility.

There are several theme days, many including attractions for children in the Course Enclosure.

The evening fixture on Tuesday, May 9, is Catterick's popular Joseph M Ladies Night and complements the Durham Cheshire Home Charity Night, on Friday, August 18. The 5th Regiment Royal Artillery Day is on Wednesday, July 26, while Family Day takes place on August 8 The 3rd running of The totesport. com Catterick Dash takes place on Saturday, October 14.
