RESIDENTS who use Darlington's kerbside recycling service are being sent a calendar to remind them when their items will be collected.

More than 45,000 calendars have been produced showing when the fortnightly collections will be picked up until next March.

The calendars show the week of collection rather than specific dates. All recycling collections are made on the same day as refuse collections.

The calendars are available in Braille, large type and a number of languages, and show what can be put in the green recycling boxes and blue bags.

Last year, just over 18 per cent of Darlington's household waste was recycled, meeting Government targets.

Councillor Stephen Harker, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for consumer and environmental services, said: "We want as many people as possible to recycle and this calendar will make sure everyone knows when to put their green box and blue bag out for collection."
