A SCHEME to help blind people continue to live independently at home has marked its first anniversary.
The County Durham Society for the Blind and Partially-Sighted, based in Church Lane, Durham City, joined forces with the Home Independence Service run by Durham County Council last May.
The move led to Calvin Hedley, who is registered blind, running the society's resource centre, which contains equipment to help the visually-impaired.
Mr Hedley said: "It has been a challenging and interesting first year improving the service and meeting many different people."
The resource centre is open Monday to Friday - call 0191-386 8175 for an appointment.
