A NIGHTCLUB'S plan to stay open until 3am still hang in the balance after councillors deferred their decision.

The three members of Stockton Borough Council's licensing sub-committee failed to reach a verdict on the application by The Keys, in Yarm High Street, after hearing evidence at a meeting yesterday.

Cleveland Police objected to the latter opening, saying they believed it would lead to an increase in violence, drunkenness and disturbance to residents.

The meeting also heard from Stockton council environmental health officer, Colin Snowdon, who said there were issues over noise coming from the club.

Chairman of the sub-committee Councillor Bill Woodhead, said he and the other two members needed more time to consider the evidence before them.

He told the interested parties that they would be notified of the decision within seven days
