A £105m improvement programme being carried out by Erimus Housing has reached a milestone - the 2,000th modernisation has been completed.

The work, carried out to a property in Netherfields, Middlesbrough, was completed as part of a five-year project, which is moving into its second year.

The modernisation included a kitchen, bathroom, new doors and windows, central heating system and complete rewiring.

Richard Welsh, who lives in the property, said: "The work was excellent and I was amazed how fast they were.

"You cannot expect people to go in and do that much work and not cause any dust, but it was definitely worth it. I am over the moon."

The improvements were carried out by Erimus Building Services, which is working alongside Rok Group and Dunelm Property services in the scheme.

Brian Kelly, chairman of Erimus Housing's regeneration committee, and Bob Brady, chairman of the board, visited Mr and Mrs Welsh to award them a £100 DIY voucher and some flowers at a celebratory event.

The programme is now moving into year two, with work continuing in Pallister Park and Park End, as well as work starting in Easterside and Whinney Banks.

Mr Brady said: "We are thrilled that we have reached this important milestone in an ambitious, yet successful, scheme.

"This scheme isn't just about bringing homes up to the Government's Decent Homes Standard, it is about focusing on our residents and improving their quality of life on our estates."
