A COUNCIL employee has reached the final stages of an awards scheme recognising public sector workers.
Garry Atkins, of Harrogate Borough Council, is competing for the public's vote against five other finalists in the Local Government Channel and Local Government Association (LGA) Employee of the Year Awards.
Mr Atkins, a senior community development officer, won the Regional Crime Beat Competition last year and has won praise for his crime reducing work with youngsters.
Mr Atkins leads the Fairfax Fishing Club to help build relationships with disadvantaged young people and on Christmas Day, he provides transport and cooks lunch for elderly people who might otherwise spend the day alone.
To vote, go to www.thelocal governmentchannel.com or text LGA GARRY to 88600.
The result will be announced on July 7.
