BURGLARS escaped with a haul of jewellery and watches worth over £200,000 in a lightening quick raid.

Market Cross Jewellers was targeted by a gang of thieves who smashed their way to most expensive and prestigious items in the store at around 11pm last night.

The shop on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough, was ransacked within minutes and the store's manageress believes the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for.

Dawn Conley said: "They cut their way though bars before getting in through a window and ransacking the shop. They only targeted the high quality and expensive ranges of watches and jewellery.

"According to our alarm operators they were only in the shop for three minutes so they must have known exactly what they were looking for and where to find it."
