MORE than £2m is being invested in a flooring factory to safeguard nearly 200 jobs and reach into new markets.
Armstrong World Industries, which has a factory on the Teesside Industrial Estate, in Thornaby, is making the investment to boost productivity and expand the business by 11 per cent a year.
Armstrong is a part of Armstrong Holdings, a global company designing and making floors, ceilings and cabinets and has 59 plants in 14 countries worldwide, with a turnover of more than $3bn a year. Its Teesside plant has a turnover of about £40m a year and produces cushion vinyl flooring.
Armstrong hopes to maintain its seven per cent European market share while moving into the US and Far East market.
