THOSE who want to nominate organisations and individuals for the third annual Darlington Volunteering Awards have only a few days remaining.

The deadline for nominations and submissions has been extended until Monday.

Organisations are able to put themselves forward, whereas individuals need to be nominated by someone.

There are five categories for organisations. They are: demonstrating good practice in volunteer recruitment and training; improving the quality of life for the organisation's service users; using volunteering to raise the profile of the organisation; using volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of the organisation; and developing its volunteers by giving them experience in transferable skills.

An organisation may enter two categories.

There are also three individual categories. They are: volunteers aged between 14-25; volunteers aged between 26-55; volunteers aged over 56

The overall volunteer of the year will be chosen from the winners of each individual age group.

Last year's overall winner was Alistair Campbell of the Darlington Parkinson's Disease Society.
