AN alcohol free zone is being called for to tackle the problem of anti-social youngsters in Thirsk.
Thirsk Town Council said gangs of youngsters were drinking and causing vandalism in the town.
The teenagers meet regularly at Mill Gardens and at a picnic area, near Cod Beck, in Norby Front Street.
Councillor Freda Roberts said: "They have moved there and are drinking and being yobbish.
"Could we ask for a ban on drinking outside as that's the only way the police will get any hold on this."
Resident Barry Ogleby said: "The kids are making a mess and smashing bottles and littering.
"They are there every night and it's an absolute disgrace and intimidating to people who walk through there."
Inspector John Richardson, head of neighbourhood policing, believes adults are buying drink for youngsters.
He said: "A no-alcohol zone would have to be very carefully applied, but we should have a debate about it."
Two arrests have been made after a number of graffiti attacks across the town.
