AWARDS have been given to two members of the Rotary Club of Guisborough and Great Ayton in recognition of their services to the community.

A Paul Harris Fellowship was presented to Dr Kevin Henderson, a retired GP, who moved to Guisborough in 1957. In 1976, he led the group that formed the Guisborough branch of Cruse, the bereavement counselling and support organisation.

A past club president, Dr Henderson is involved in its international disaster support work, which is working to provide water filter kits and shoebox emergency kits for disaster areas.

Peter Sotheran received his award in recognition of his work as a trustee of the Sir William Turner's Almshouses, at Kirkleatham and his support over the past 15 years for the Redcar and Cleveland Twinning Association.

Also a former club president, Mr Sotheran also leads the teams that produce and organise the Family Focus Town Directory and Guisborough Town Fair.
