THEATRICAL friends from Durham City are putting the finishing touches to their stage version of a famous musicals.
West Side Story, staged by the West End Operatic Society, opens at the Theatre Royal, in Newcastle, on Monday for a one-week run.
The show reunites director Lesley Franks and choreographer Val Shields, both from Newton Hall, Durham City.
Ms Franks, a retired teacher, directed the society's productions of Annie Get Your Gun in 2003 and The King And I in 2004.
She has had to work closely with Ms Shields because of the show's exhausting demands on the dancers.
She said: "I would like to thank Val for her inspiration and expertise and say how much I have enjoyed our joint venture working together on the show. "
