Two teenage burglars who repeatedly raped a pensioner in her own home were jailed for life today.
David Humphrey and Lee Beazley, both 19, were high on a cocktail of drugs and alcohol when they broke into the home of the 65-year-old woman on the night of September 29 last year.
They had drunk large quantities of alcohol, smoked cannabis and taken heroin substitute tablets, before breaking into the woman's home in Middlesbrough.
The grandmother was watching television when the pair entered the house. She was threatened by the youths, who were armed with a knife and screwdriver.
The woman was repeatedly beaten and raped before her home was ransacked. Property, including jewellery, cash and a mobile phone was stolen during the terrifying ordeal.
After dragging herself to a phone she made a 999 call and was later treated for severe facial injuries and trauma at Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital.
Judge Peter Fox, who sentenced the pair to life imprisonment, said: "Your offending against this lady in her own home ranks amongst the worst cases ever committed on Teesside.
"Gripped by greed and lust you subjected her to a terrible ordeal, one shocking and painful, in her own home, which you went on to plunder and defile.
"This court can do nothing to repair the disgraceful harm you perpetrated that night."
Fox told the pair they must serve at least six years before they will be considered for parole.
