A DANCE night takes place this weekend to launch a new youth club.
Tomorrow's event, which is aimed at youngsters aged 12 to 17, takes place at Meadowfield Leisure Centre, near Durham City.
The event is staged by Club DC, which is arranging events for people across the district, including Friday night youth sessions at the city's four council-owned leisure centres.
Jill Wood, leisure development officer at Durham City Council, said: "The club will bring together a range of leisure and sporting activities, which will also present the opportunity for developing social skills, trying new things and meeting new people.
"The dance night is our first official event and we are hoping for a successful start that we can build on with future events.
"It is an alcohol and drugs-free event, which is being supported by the local police team and community support officers."
The dance night runs from 6pm to 10pm, with three main rooms offering different types of music from hardcore to chill out.
Tickets for the dance night cost £3.50 in advance or £5 on the door, available from Meadowfield Leisure Centre on 0191-3789888.
