FOOTBALL-MAD children at Darlington College were given a taste of the professional game on a holiday trip to remember.
Thirteen members of the holiday club at Darlington College's childcare centre were treated to a visit to Darlington Football Club's stadium, in Neasham Road.
Amy Lee, nine, who is a Darlington Football Club fan, said: "I thought the ground was really great.
"I really enjoyed the tour and could not believe we were allowed to go on to the actual football pitch."
The hour-long tour for the five to 11-year-olds was conducted by the club's community sports officer, Kevin Stonehouse, who showed the children the changing rooms, boardroom and treatment rooms.
They were also told about the history of the club and some of its more colourful characters.
Darlington College childcare practitioner Stacy Herbert said: "It was a really good trip and very interesting, finding out about what happens there.
"I didn't know that the players have to go in an ice bath after every match to avoid injuries."
To celebrate the occasion, in the afternoon, the children had a penalty shoot-out competition and practised their ball skills.
