A HOUSING trust has welcomed the results of an Audit Commission inspection.

The report said services provided by the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, which has homes in York and New Earswick, were "good with promising prospects for improvement".

The assessment places the trust in the top 25 per cent of registered social landlords recently inspected.

Lord Richard Best, director of the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, said: "We are pleased the in-depth review by the Audit Commission deems our housing services as good.

"The award of two stars, which is equal to the highest scoring housing associations, is gratifying.

"We will be using the inspection report over the months ahead to develop our services further, including a review of those areas where the commission makes specific recommendations.

"The inspection did not review our services at our residential homes, which are subject to separate regulation by the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate.

"However, here again, we are gratified by the positive reports which we have received."
