A 22-year-old woman escaped from a fire in her home by climbing on to a first-floor roof with her child.
She managed to get out of the house in Scafell Court, Doxford park, Sunderland, in the early hours of yesterday with her two-year-old son.
Fire crews were called out at 1am and tackled the pan fire in the kitchen.
The occupants were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for a check up and the toddler was kept in for observation.
The kitchen was damaged by fire and the rest of the house by smoke.
