POLICE have released images of two men they want to question in relation to a burglary at a town supermarket.

The Co-op store in Commercial Street, Willington, was broken into in the early hours of January 30, and cigarettes and cash were stolen.

Detectives at Bishop Auckland CID have issued images of the men they believe were responsible, who were captured on the store's CCTV system the day before.

The burglars forced their way into the building through the fire door and made their way to the office which they searched. When they failed to break into the safe they went back into the shop and took three grey plastic trays from the tills, each of which contained a float of about £100.

They also forced open the tobacco display area and made off with a large haul of cigarettes.

Anyone who recognises the suspects or recalls hearing the store's alarm at the time of the burglary is asked to contact Bishop Auckland CID on 0845 60 60 365 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
