MOTORISTS who commit parking offences in a Teesside town can now view pictures of their offending vehicle on the web.

Photographs of the vehicle, with its fixed penalty notice on the windscreen, are taken by car parking attendants and will be displayed on Stockton Borough Council's website.

Depending on the contravention, and its location, there will be three or more photographs of the offending vehicle.

The snapshots will form part of the council's case should the matter ever be taken to the independent parking adjudicator.

Security is in place to ensure that it is only the offenders who can check out the website pictures, as it is only the driver who will know and can enter both the vehicle registration mark and the unique number of the penalty notice.

Offenders can appeal against the fine via e-mail and payments of fines can also be made online.

Councillor Bob Cook, Stockton council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "This exciting step towards the electronic age is one of many assisting in the Government's drive towards electronic delivery of local services.

"Stockton council is proud of achievements made in that regard, and sees this further development as an important contribution."

For demonstration purposes, there are some fake cases on the website which can be viewed on www.stockton. gov.uk
