DESIGNER outlet developer and owner McArthurGlen is investing more than £5m in one of its centres in the region - creating 50 jobs.

The London company, which has 14 outlets in the UK, France, Austria, the Netherlands and Italy, is redeveloping its York site and renaming it the York Designer Outlet to emphasise its links with the city.

The revamp will see the addition of 10,000sq ft of space for a new tenant and the creation of store units to replace the At Home shopping area.

Work is due to start at the end of the month and the area will re-open in early November. The rest of the centre will be unaffected.

General manager Colin Wilding said: "By creating individual units, we are providing an improved environment for our customers. Also, the new anchor tenant, which we will announce shortly, will be a great addition to our portfolio of high-quality brands.

"We want to reassure customers that there will be no disruption within the centre throughout the development as the whole section will be boarded off and noise kept to a minimum."
