Darlington's Simon Johnson paid the undignified price for under-performing when the substitute was substituted at Peterborough on Tuesday. And manager David Hodgson has warned any repeat will have serious repercussions.

Johnson was hauled off by Hodgson after just 24 minutes at London Road.

After replacing the injured Neil Wainwright early in the second half, such was Hodgson's disapproval of Johnson's contribution, the 22-year-old was withdrawn with ten minutes remaining.

Hodgson knows that with the play-off race still wide open - Quakers are now three points outside the top seven in ninth - he cannot afford players not pulling their weight.

"Simon knows why I took him off after putting him on," said Hodgson. "I had a word with him in private and he knows that I won't have any player not doing what they've been told out on the pitch.

"I wasn't wrong in taking him off and he's going to have to sort himself out. If he doesn't he won't play for the club ever again."

With Wainwright struggling Johnson could earn a reprieve against Shrewsbury tomorrow.

"If he plays I have all the belief in him in the world," said Hodgson. "It's down to him - if he gets the chance again he has to take it."

Phil Stamp is available after returning to training following a toe injury, but at best he will be on the bench tomorrow.

Jonjo Dickman and Clark Keltie will get the nod in midfield, while on-loan Fulham midfielder Neale McDermott will be among the substitutes.

David Duke, Brian Close and Anthony Peacock are all back in training, but will be given another week to build up their fitness.
