PAUL Stephenson tonight takes charge of his second - and possibly last - game as Hartlepool United manager.

Pool meet Chesterfield at Victoria Park seeking their first win since beating Bournemouth back on December 10.

That run has seen them drop into the bottom four and manager Martin Scott lose his job.

Yesterday, his assistant Steve Agnew followed Scott out of the club. And that clears the way for a new managerial partnership to take over ahead of next Tuesday's trip to Tranmere.

Former Pool boss Chris Turner, assisted by Colin West, appears to be in the driving seat for the post.

But there was no word from the club yesterday and Stephenson, who secured a point in a goalless draw at Rotherham last weekend, can't wait for the chance to impress in front of his own fans.

Pool have only won three League One games at Victoria Park this season and it hasn't been a happy home at times.

The temporary boss, however, wants to put that right tonight.

"I'm looking forward to it because we have had a good build-up this week and I've got real, tough decisions to make,'' he said.

"I know the team and the lads concerned and I feel that if you are going to play a set team, or a different team, you need to play with that group and we've done that this week.

"I've a good set of lads in terms of backing my decisions - they have told me they will go with that I do. But how long that will last I don't know.

"I'm treating this as an adventure, I don't know how long I'll be doing it for.''

He added: "We have to have the belief and confidence from last week's performance and we want to give the crowd something, then they will get behind us.

"We are at home and it's up to us to impose ourselves.''

Among Stephenson's choices include where Micky Barron, Micky Nelson and Chris Llewellyn fit into his plans.

The trio were all suspended last week.

Matty Robson was handed a recall by Stephenson after injury and he made the most of his opportunity.

After being given a chance on the left wing, Robson said: "It is never nice to be out but there are good pros here and it is good to have an opportunity to take a step back and watch closely how they operate.

"I was happy with my contribution last week and it was good to be back in again.

"If you look at things and think it is all doom and gloom then that is the way it will be.

"But we have to stay upbeat - there are only six points between us and tenth place.

"We know we have got to improve our home form, three wins all season at home isn't good enough, so that has to improve starting now. If we can do that and keep a positive attitude we can go from there.

"If there were five games to go and we needed to win all five it would be a different story.

"But there is plenty of time to go, there is a third of the season left and a lot of things can happen.

"A few wins would get us out of the danger zone and right up the league.''

After Scott's initial suspension and subsequent departure, Robson admitted: "It has been a difficult few weeks.

"The lads involved know we have got to club together to get through things. Maybe in the last few weeks we have been a bit nervous but we were composed last week and relaxed and we passed the ball with conviction.

"All the stuff that is going on is off-the-field and the lads are here to do a job on the field, that's what we are paid for.

Chesterfield have not lost in League One since October 29 last year and have drawn 11 of the 15 games.
