FIRE crews were called to a chemical firm on Teesside on Monday. Officers from Cleveland Fire Brigade responded to a call at 9.20pm to attend Invista Textiles (Uk) Ltd, at Wilton.

Site manager Douglas Annan said: "We had a small fire on one of our units. The fire was extinguished by plant personnel following isolation of the system prior to arrival of the fire brigade." No one was hurt.

Man faces jail: A 22-year-old man has been warned he faces jail after he admitted drugs charges. Thomas Welch, of Geneva Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court yesterday to supplying cocaine between May 2003 and May 2005, and possessing cocaine with intent to supply on May 8, last year. His case was adjourned until the week commencing February 27.

ATTACK PLEA: Surgeons had to operate on an 18-year-old whose nose and jaw were broken in an unprovoked attack in an alleyway off Eston High Street, in Eston, near Middlesbrough, last week. He was walking with a friend near The George pub, in the early hours of Saturday, when they were assaulted by two men, who jumped them from behind. Witnesses are asked to call (01642) 326326.
