A SOUTHERN radio DJ has walked out after finding he earned less than his northern counterpart.

Alex Dyke, co-host of the North-South Divided Show, broadcast on several local radio stations in the region, quit after learning fellow host Mike Elliott had a bigger pay packet than him.

An argument took place on the show on Wednesday evening when the conversation about money began to get heated.

The show is broadcast on the Music Fun Life radio network, including Alpha, Sun and Durham FM in the North-East.

Mr Elliott, who broadcasts from Sunderland, revealed he was paid more because he has to travel through the Tyne Tunnel.

Mr Dyke felt he should get paid more because he works in the Isle of Wight where the cost of living is higher.

A spokesman for Music Fun Life said: "The presenters had a bit of a barney. They had just had their contracts renewed for the year and Mike, pretty insensitvely, let slip that he gets more money than Alex.

"Alex is a pretty spiky broadcaster and chucked his toys out of the pram and walked out on air."
