PLANS for east Durham's newest play park were unveiled this week.
The park, aimed at young children, will be in Elgin Avenue, in the Deneside area of Seaham.
The idea to develop the site came from local councillor Albert Nugent, who commissioned the charity Groundwork East Durham to consult residents and design a scheme.
Two consultation events were held at Eastlea Community Centre to gauge views, which have been incorporated in the design for the site.
The proposals for the park include a segregated play space for toddlers and young children, which will include a slide, a roundabout and a springer-seesaw, all on coloured safety surfacing.
A fun fitness trail will also be marked out for older children.
Additional trees will be planted on the surrounding land to divide areas for different uses.
Coun Nugent said: "The proposals for the area are really exciting. Thanks to funding from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and the Urban Rural Renaissance Initiative, the local community will have a new facility which will provide young children with a safe place in which to play."
