HARD-working and well-behaved children are to get the chance to see a Royal Navy Lynx helicopter close up as a reward.

It will be landing in the grounds of Fyndoune School, Sacriston, on Tuesday, for a two-hour visit - provided the weather is good.

Youngsters from the school and the Durham Community Business College, at Ushaw Moor - the two schools plan to form a federation - will be able to meet the crew and inspect the machine.

Fyndoune's careers co-ordinator Linda Dixon said: "It will be a reward for students who are a credit to the school, those who work hard or are polite.

"We are inviting students from Durham Community Business College. It will be a chance for them to meet our students as well.

"The visit depends on the weather and we are hoping that the high pressure and blue skies that we have at the moment continue.''

She said the visit came about after the Royal Navy attended a careers convention at the school. "We are always keen to do anything that promotes careers and it will be exciting for the pupils.''
