IT will be a weekend of nostalgia and family fun when the Second World War is remembered on Teesside.

Hartlepool Central Library, in York Road, is hosting two days of events and activities, this Saturday and Sunday, with the title of Wartime Weekend, The Hartlepools' War.

The events have been organised to coincide with a touring Imperial War Museum exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, called Their Past Your Future, which is on show at Hartlepool Art Gallery, in Church Square, until the end of the month.

Children and young person's librarian Gill Slimings said: "We've put together a varied and interesting programme of free activities, and there really is something for everyone, including quizzes, special effects sessions, costumed actors, music from the era, war-gaming, poetry, crafts and displays of photographs and wartime memorabilia."

The weekend will start at 10.30am on Saturday with Wartime in the Hartlepools, an archive talk on the effects of war in and around the Hartlepools.

Youngsters will be able to have their faces painted and have wax war wounds applied to their bodies at a camouflage and special effects sessions from 11am to 2pm on Saturday.

There will be a demonstration of ration cookery in the community room at noon on Saturday, and a soup kitchen will operate throughout the day, along with a variety of other activities, including craft sessions, wartime music, and exhibitions
