TWO orchestras combined their talents to lay on one of the biggest concerts to be held in Darlington for many years.
Darlington Orchestra, conducted by David Plews, joined the Cobweb Orchestra, under conductor Andy Jackson, for the Mayor's Charity Concert, on Saturday night.
The ensemble of 70 musicians were also joined on stage at the Darlington Arts Centre by professional singer Janet Walke. The concert included music from Shirley Bassey to Elgar. Proceeds will go to the mayor's charities Darlington Association on Disability, Family Help and the Darlington Music Festival.
Mayor Stella Robson said: "It was a splendid evening. We had a wonderful night. The combined orchestra played very well and the two conductors explained each piece and gave an interesting commentary."
Despite clashing with another charity concert, the venue was almost full.
Councillor Robson said: "It is a credit to the music support in Darlington that the town could support two great music events on the same night."
