A COUNCIL will celebrate Chinese New Year in style with the help of 20 children.
The pupils from the reception class at Ouston Primary School will parade through the Chester-le-Street Civic Mall at 11am today.
They will be wearing traditional Chinese costumes, and carrying banners and lanterns they have been making at school. The parade will be followed by their performance of a dragon dance.
Members of the public are invited to join in the celebrations and to encourage the children.
Chester-le-Street District Council leader Councillor Linda Ebbatson is expected to attend the event, along with council chairman Councillor Allen Turner.
The restaurant in the Civic Centre will serve Chinese food tomorrow.
