HEROIN and cannabis with a street value of more than £15,000 has been recovered in Thornaby.

Yesterday morning, drug squad officers from Cleveland Police raided two properties, in Hampden Way and Roseberry View, in the town.

There they recovered cannabis and two-and-a-half ounces of heroin, with a street value of up to £7,000.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were still in police custody last night and were helping police with their inquiries.

The operation followed the recovery of three ounces of heroin from a car in the same area last weekend.

The vehicle is believed to be linked to the two men.

Detective Sergeant Tom Drysdale, of the Stockton drugs unit, said: "This is yet another success for our team and a warning for people involved in drugs that there is no let-up on our part to target and deal with this menace.

"The two seizures exceed a street value of £15,000, which is a very good result for us that will have an impact on drug users around the area."

He added that the recovery of the heroin will cause a shortfall in the market, and that local treatment workers have been alerted to a potential problem.

He said anyone who found themselves affected should seek immediate professional help.
