THIS weekend, newspapers and television will be full of discussions about whether a politician should keep his job.

The politician in question will be Charles Kennedy. It is difficult to see how he can.

But the politician really in the spotlight should be George Galloway, the egocentric MP for Bethnal Green and Bow. He's locked himself up in the Big Brother house for three weeks with various other tawdry talents like a failed comedian, a Baywatch babe and the England football manager's ex-mistress.

Mr Galloway will no doubt say that he will be raising political points on a programme that is not normally noted for its intellectual debates.

But what about the proper Parliamentary debates that he will be missing, and the detailed Committee work. What about his constituents?

The outside interests of MPs, where they earn vast amounts of money for very little work, have already damaged politics' image. Seeing an MP prancing on late night TV while doing no work can only damage that image further.

Perhaps even more than Mr Kennedy, Mr Galloway should not keep his job.
