FOUR nurses and a supermarket have worked together to bring cheer to people spending the festive season on their own.
Stephen Bell, Carolyn Fisher, Ken Moore and Angela Freeman, from Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust, have been putting together the fruits of their labours, which began by raising funds earlier this year.
Two successful fundraising nights at Stockton Bowling Club raised £1,600, enough to allow the nurses from Clifton House, Thornaby, to put together 66 food hampers.
Sainsbury's, at Whitehouse Farm, Stockton, helped by packing the hampers with best-value goods for distribution to mental health service users in the Stockton, Billingham and Thornaby areas who are on their own.
The hampers are packed with mince pies, biscuits, nuts, crisps, chocolates, crackers, cooked meats and fruit.
