KARATE youngsters in Spennymoor enjoyed a 100 per cent pass rate at a grading which took place this month.

Thirteen students from the Chikara Dojo of Kyokushin karate group gained belts after grading by chief instructor Adam Walker.

He had been granted permission by the country's leading Kyokushin expert, Shihan Joe Claronino, 7th dan, to grade students up to the level of yellow belt.

Chloe and James Wilkinson, from Ferryhill, who have been training at the club for about three years, got the highest marks, both gaining yellow belts.

Mr Walker said: "A very high standard was shown by all who took part."

Members of the club will be taking part in a beach training session and swim on New Year's Day.
