THOUSANDS of Teesside residents and workers will be reminded every day next year of a schoolgirl's peace message.

Artwork by 14-year-old Holly Price has been chosen by judges to illustrate a message of world peace for the front cover of 22,000 copies of a community calendar.

The teenager is a pupil at St Michael's School, Billingham, one of nearly 20 schools to take part in a competition, organised by 12 chemical, power and steel manufacturing companies on Teesside.

Gary Conroy, Wilton site manager for Advansa, one of the companies sponsoring the calendar, said: "All the children's work was absolutely excellent, but the most pleasing aspect to me was that, almost without exception, the students picked hopes and dreams that benefited mankind, rather than themselves as individuals."

The calendar has for the past 17 years been issued free to homes around the companies' sites.

It also includes safety advice plus dates and times of plant alarm tests.

The calendar sponsors were BOC, Corus, Dow, Advansa, Invista, Lucite International, Huntsman, Petroplus, pxlimited, SembCorp Utilities UK, Terra Nitrogen UK and Uniqema.

Holly was presented with a certificate and gift vouchers by paralympic Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson.
