A MAN was admitted to hospital after being attacked by a gang of thugs.
Their unnamed victim was asssaulted between Wilton Lane and Castleton Road, Grangetown, on Wedneaday.
Cleveland Police say it was an unprovoked attack.
As he walked across an area of garages, the 28-year-old became aware of a group of youths ahead of him. One approached him and asked for a cigarette.
The same yob then punched the man in the face. At the same time, he felt a blow to his back, which turned out to be a ten millimetre puncture wound.
He was admitted to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
The assault took place at about 10.55pm, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Paul Husband, of South Bank CID, on (01642) 302626.
