A GROUP of recovered drug and alcohol users has achieved a major milestone in their drive to put something back into the community.
As a result of the success of their first fundraising day, they have been able to hand over a cheque for £387.12 to local charity, Make A Child Smile.
The former addicts, who came together with representatives from Middlesbrough support services to form the Boro Can Recover Forum, decided it was time to repay the community's faith in them.
Members raised the cash through a jumble sale and a children's Christmas party, which brought African rhythms from the Teesside Drummers, face painting and Santa Claus to North Ormesby Community Centre.
The forum is now planning an ambitious programme for next year. It will include a major charity event at Easter and, subject to funding, the production of a video.
