A HAPPY Christmas is in store for three office workers after their Lotto syndicate won £136,855.

The timely windfall came when Philip Scott, 56, checked the numbers for the syndicate run with colleagues Robert Purdy, 41, and Alan McCartney, 48, at Provident Financial Services, on Tyneside, for the Lotto draw of December 3.

Five of their numbers and the bonus ball came up, providing each with a £45,618 share of the winnings.

Mr Scott, from Wallsend, North Tyneside, Mr Purdy, from Gosforth, Newcastle, and Mr McCartney, of Gateshead, have already been for a meal to celebrate.

They have been loyal Lotto players since its launch in 1994, keeping the same numbers throughout.

Mr Scott said: "We have kept faith with the same numbers since the start and always thought we would win something.

"The timing of this is so perfect and means we can all give our families a Christmas to remember."

The three were presented with the winning cheque yesterday at Walkerville Newsagents, in Shields Road, Wallsend, where the winning ticket was bought.
