A BOOK chronicling the history of a North Yorkshire market town has been published.
More than 70 people attended a reception to celebrate the launch of An Illustrated History of Ripon, by Maurice Taylor.
Mr Taylor has lived in Ripon for more than 30 years and has been researching the history of the town since 1992.
The book covers the history from prehistoric times to the present day.
Subjects such as the market, Ripon's religious past, industry, civic pride, leisure, learning and heroes and villains are included.
The book contains lists of wakemen, mayors and bishops. Information on the origins of Ripon street names is also included.
The book has been published by David Lane, of House of Stratus bookshop.
Guests at the reception, at Thorpe Prebend House on Thursday, included the Right Reverend John Packer, Bishop of Ripon, and the mayor of Ripon, Councillor Stuart Martin.
The book costs £12 and is available from House of Stratus, in Fishergate, Ripon.
