DAVID Hodgson last night attempted to clarify the mystery surrounding Darlington striker Tresor Kandol's absence this week.

On Wednesday, Hodgson spoke of his "anger and disappointment" following Kandol's failure to turn up for training on Sunday. Hodgson was informed by the player's agent on the same day that the striker had been involved in a minor accident, but remained unconvinced after he wasn't able to get in touch with Kandol.

The striker, who joined Quakers on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge last month, was given permission by Hodgson to return to London to attend a Christening last Friday.

After holding a meeting with Kandol and chairman Stewart Davies on Thursday, Hodgson was satisfied with the forward's explanation.

The Quakers boss also explained that Kandol's failure to return to the North-East until Wednesday was taken with the club's consent.

Kandol suffered a shoulder injury in the road collision and was not considered for Tuesday's defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

"He was away for six days, but that was only due to the fact that we were away from Monday and didn't return until Wednesday," said Hodgson.

"In that time there was no opportunity to sit down with the player. I was well aware of where Tresor was during that time, but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted."

Kandol's agent, Curtis Dawes, insists his client has reaffirmed his commitment to the club he is on loan to until January.

"Tresor was involved in an accident and we just couldn't get the message up to Darlington in time for the training session on Sunday," said Dawes.

"It's been blown out of proportion and Tresor is more than happy to be a Darlington player."

Kandol will miss today's trip to Stockport through injury.
