THE village of Sinnington, near Pickering, has been named the most idyllic place to live in Yorkshire.

According to a survey carried out by Cambridge University, the village has emerged as having the lowest level of adults suffering from mood and anxiety disorder in the region of Yorkshire and Humberside.

The report says it epitomises everything about a traditional English village - picture-postcard cottages and gardens, a Maypole, a popular old world pub, an ancient church, a chapel, a river, thriving primary school, football team and a plethora of organisations.

Parish Council Chairman, Bill Baldwin said "Ours is a lovely community, people have no reason to have anxiety in Sinnington."

And life could even be better in the future as a result of a parish plan which envisages the providing of an all-weather pitch and tennis courts. "We are beginning to work on the idea" said Mr Baldwin.

He added: "We had 500 at Bonfire Night and the parish council put on the firework display - it was a great night".

While Sinnington is just off the busy A170 Scarborough to Thirsk road, it still has a good bus service for residents, said Mr Baldwin.

Parish clerk Sue Clements said "It's lovely to have such recognition. Sinnington is a very pleasant place to live, everyone gets on well."
