COMMITTED students will be handed high street prizes during a rewards scheme.

Bishopsgarth School, Maths and Computing College, in Stockton, is encouraging regular attendance at after-school classes by handing out shopping vouchers.

The school approached Wellington Square to work together to promote the after school work.

A £1,000 fund has now been put together, which will be divided among committed pupils to be spent in the shopping area.

Karen Howden, learning mentor at Bishopsgarth, said: "We are very pleased that Wellington Square has agreed to work with us in trying to raise the achievement levels at our school by rewarding hard-working students.

"I'm sure the year 11 students will now think twice about missing these extra classes."

Tutors from maths, English, science and IT classes will select one student who has demonstrated regular attendance and excellent effort to receive £25 to spend at any of the stores in the centre.

Rob Gildersleeve, centre manager at Wellington Square said: "The students at Bishopsgarth represent the future of this town and the Tees Valley, so we're encouraging them to stay in school, knuckle down and work hard to fulfil their potential."
